“Public Works Ministry needs to tell the nation what they did with taxpayers’ monies”After taking a trip last weekend to sections of Region One (Barima Waini ) with the intent of hearing the issues affecting residents of that municipality, executive members of the Alliance For Change (AFC) expressed yesterday, that they were appalled to note “the extremely deplorable conditions of the roads.”The “awful experience” moved those who visited the area,Cheap Chicago White sox Jersey Jerseys, to protest the Ministries of Public Works and Local Government as they called on Public Works Minister, Robeson Benn to tell the nation what his ministry did with the millions collected in tolls in that area,Everett Golson Notre Dame Jersey, taking into account, the state of the roadways. The protestors held placards which read, “Region One roads have become a death trap,Harrison Barnes North Carolina Jersey,” “Local Govt. Ministry fails the people of Region One again”, and “The People of Region One are being treated like animals.”AFC Executive member, Michael Carrington, said that the opposition party paid a visit to Port Kaituma, Arakaka,Wholesale Jerseys, and Matthews Ridge, and the internal and external roads were so terrible that their vehicle capsized. Carrington claimed that the Interim Management Committee (IMC) there, collects millions in tolls “and the roads have no right being in that condition.”“It is approximately $75,Landry Jones Oklahoma Jersey, 000 to cross with a Hymac to go to Matthews Ridge and $12,Steve Owens Oklahoma Jersey, 000 for a truck and cars are $2000. The transportation is expensive because of the terrible condition of the roads,Mississippi State Bulldogs Jerseys, so what are they doing with the monies? How can the residents be made to endure these kinds of conditions? We find it disturbing that there is an IMC there just collecting millions and the roads are in such a poor state. It is fixable and it will be done under the AFC – led government. This PPP government has only used the area and just left it in shambles.”Another Executive Member, Nelson McKenzie, said that the AFC visited those areas of Region One with the intention of holding discussions, “But we met a disaster that those residents are made to deal with on a daily basis. The roads were so difficult; at times you got the impression that it was impassible. The fact is that the IMC is there and not doing anything. …People’s lives are also at stake and they contribute to the development of this country and they must be respected.”AFC Parliamentarian,Stephon Tuitt Notre Dame Jersey, Trevor Williams emphasized as well, that the government needs to give the nation a detailed account of the millions collected in tolls.“…they have treated the people in that area with utter disrespect,” he added. His colleague, Valerie Garrido-Lowe also shared her experience in the area with Kaieteur News and surmised that it is clear that government only sees the people in Region One as “mud rats.”They continued their chant, “the PPP must go,” among others,Justin Blackmon Oklahoma State Jersey, until approximately 2 pm yesterday. |
