Six charitable organizations around Guyana benefited from a GY$1.6M donation from a New York, USA, Hindu temple.The Mandir, “Vighneshwar”, was founded 14-years ago and has since assisted less fortunate persons in and around the Caribbean.Pandit Mochan Persaud, President of the Mandir, noted that he and members of the temple would annually pool money in order to assist the needy.He further emphasized that this year, they chose to contribute to orphanages in Guyana.Persaud (right) handing over the cheque to Mr. Ramsaroop on the left.The organizations that benefited were the Dharma Shala -$400,000; Prabhu Sharan Orphanage- $200,000; Bless the Children Orphanage-$300,000; Hope Children Orphanage- $200,000; Cheshire Home- 100,000; Camal Home- $200,000 and Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Center-$200,000.On January, 10, last, the final handing over was made to Dharma Shala. Receiving the cheque from Persaud was the Director of Dharma Shala, Harry S. Ramsaroop.The Director expressed his gratitude to the businessman,Chris Leroux Canada Jersey, while Persaud made promises that his team will continue to support that particular NGO annually.The Dharma Shala caters for many destitute from around Guyana, and presently, it houses 40 residents and feeds over 140 persons three times per day. |
