The structures include four main head regulatory canals and two new bridges. The bridges will make land more accessible while the main head regulators are intake structures from the conservancies and the secondary head regulators will control the intake from the main canals to the secondary canals.Works on the structures started last April and are expected to be completed by next September. The project is being funded by the government and the Inter-American Development Bank. The contract is being executed by BK International at a cost of US$20 M.This project was envisioned early 1995 when the Government had conceived the Agriculture Sector Support Service Programme. This project includes the rehabilitation of drainage and irrigation systems with the aim of expanding cultivation in the region since the main limitations were the availability of water and proper management of water. |
