… while searching for ‘Cobra’The police ranks who assaulted and detained three friends while searching for wanted man ‘Cobra’ have apologised to the men for their actions.A police release said that the apologies were made on Thursday during a confrontation between the victims and the ranks. The release stated that the Police Force anti-crime unit is currently pursuing a gang headed by a man known only as ‘Cobra’.“Acting on information received that a motor car which is used by ‘Cobra’ was at the Aziza Akouza Resort, a team of police ranks proceeded to that location on Sunday May 30, 2010.”“Upon arrival the ranks saw three men and a woman in the motor car and ordered them out of the vehicle. The woman was released while the police attempted to arrest the three men for questioning, based on their being in the car used by ‘Cobra’.”According to the release, the men “began to pull and tug with the police and a scramble ensued during which they received minor injuries.”“A confrontation was held between the men namely Colin Jack, 37 years of Tucville, Georgetown; Fabian Levius, 31 years of West Ruimveldt, Georgetown; and Mark Hukumchand, 25 years of Durban Street, Georgetown, and the police ranks at the Timehri Police Station on Thursday June 03, 2010. They agreed to an amicable settlement during which the three men accepted apologies from all of the police ranks and requested no further police action in the matter. But Jack and Levius told Kaieteur News that they were sheltering from the rain in Jack’s car when several police ranks surrounded the vehicle. Jack said he was dragged from the car, and he, Levius and a third friend were forced to lie face-down in wet sand. The taxi driver alleged that the police ranks claimed that he was ‘Cobra’ and that he had cut his hair. Both friends said that they were stomped upon, kicked and that the ranks pressed firearms to their heads. They were then handcuffed and taken to the Timehri Police Station. According to the friend,NFL Jerseys Supply, the policemen soon realised their mistake. Nevertheless, they were placed in a small, filthy cell and were released without an apology the following day.Shortly after the men were detained, Kaieteur News had sought information about the men’s arrest, but a rank at the station had denied that the friends were in custody. |
