Two men were yesterday remanded to prison until the middle of next month after a murder charge was read to them in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Kwesi Walker, 25, of Kimbia, Berbice, and Rayburn Shivamber,wholesale jerseys, of Sir David Rose Street, Rose Hall Town Berbice, are accused of murdering Michael Dillon between April 25 and 27 last, at Upper Berbice.The men were not required to plead to the charge after it was read to them by Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan and they were ordered held until September 18th. Their next court appearance will be at the Kwakwani Magistrate’s Court.Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones, presented the prosecution’s case and did not provide the court with any facts about what transpired on the day in question. Jones indicated that statements are still outstanding in the matter.Attorney Jerome Khan represented Walker, while Shivamber was unrepresented.Khan during his submission claimed that his client was beaten while incarcerated at the Linden Police Station. He said that the man was later taken to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Eve Leary, where he met kind officers who took him to seek medical attention.The attorney requested that the Magistrate grant an order permitting his client to seek medical treatment at a private institution. He pointed out that the accused is still experiencing pain as a result of the abuse he suffered.The lawyer explained to the court that the issuing of the order will allow his client to be rid of any medical complications during incarceration.Further, the lawyer requested an early date for continuation and told the court that his client has no antecedents. |
