Chief-of-staff of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Commodore Gary Best is not ruling out negligence in the boat mishap on the Cuyuni River two Mondays ago that left two soldiers dead. Commodore Best has promised to take action if negligence is found. On a visit to the frontline Army base at New River recently, Best said the Army does not “quite know what happened at Eteringbang” but if it was a case of negligence then those who were negligent would be dealt with.“I have said that under my watch we must deal with infractions as they occur, cheap nfl jerseys online,” Best said.He is advising soldiers to be on guard for their safety, even though it’s the responsibility of the Army to ensure their safety.Six soldiers were aboard the GDF vessel when it collided with a civilian vessel at Eteringbang in the Cuyuni River.Four of the soldiers were thrown into the river by the force of the collision and two of them made it back to the safety of the boat, but two of them were swept away and were later found dead. The two soldiers who lost their lives were Private Colwin Harris and Corporal Wesley Hopkinson. The Army launched a Board of Inquiry into the incident and Best said the results of the inquiry would be shared with the relatives of Harris and Hopkinson. |
