Major General (rtd) Joe Singh on Tuesday last presented a $1M cheque to the project coordinator of North West Organics, Annette Arjoon as part of the programme to pursue the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).The money should be used to purchase machinery such as choppers and grinders,Brett Favre Packers Jersey, and is geared towards improving the production of peanut butter and cocoa sticks.During the presentation at the Private Sector Commission,Irving Fryar Patriots Jersey, Arjoon said that money would help increase the production of peanut butter and cocoa sticks.Arjoon recently said that the North West Organic group has secured an overseas market,James White Patriots Jersey, the Hi-Low Supermarket in Trinidad and Tobago,John Stallworth Steelers Jersey, for its peanut butter.At present,Bart Starr Packers Jersey, though, the group is only capable of supplying its lone customer,Kevin Faulk Patriots Jersey, Le Meridien.Major General (rtd) Singh said that this project would help in the empowerment of women in the community.At the presentation,Greg Lloyd Steelers Jersey, representatives from various agencies such as Go- Invest,Mike Webster Steelers Jersey, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), among others,Dermontti Dawson Steelers Jersey, voiced their continued participation and support for the project.Ms Arjoon expressed her appreciation for the money and said that it would go a far way in making a difference for women in that community.She added that the donation would also bring a change in the indigenous communities of Guyana.The group that would be the prime recipients of the funding under the North West Organics initiative is the Blue Flame Women’s group.The National Working Group (NWG) on Public Private Partnerships for the attainment of the MDGs is a direct outcome of the first Caribbean initiative expressly geared at establishing a development partnership with the private sector in the pursuit of the MDGs which was held in Guyana at the end of June 2005. |
