Killing of GPL Chief Security Officer… The father of Arnim Griffith yesterday continued to profess his son’s innocence in the murder of Guyana Power and Light Company Chief Security officer Clifford Peters.Aubrey Griffith told Kaieteur News that his son was held initially for a traffic offence on Tuesday. According to Mr. Griffith, he was subsequently placed on an identification parade and was told that he was being held for robbery under arms.Griffith said that an “eyewitness” who alleged that the son was one of the people involved in Peters’ murder picked out his son.But Mr. Griffith said his son who is 23, was at a gym when the GPL security official was slain and there are several persons who can attest to that fact.Describing his son as a well-known individual, Mr. Griffith questioned why he would attack someone cutting off electricity in Sophia when he lives in another location. He noted that several persons could attest to his son’s unblemished character.“The police need to do better work. How long more will they continue to pick up innocent people and slap charges on them more so young men, cutting their lives short?” Griffith said. The man added that his son has represented Guyana on more than one occasion at cricket.Griffith said in 2007,Jerseys NFL Wholesale China Online, his son was adjudged Best Graduating Student from the Guyana School of Agriculture, in the field of Veterinary Science. And he stated that his son never had any brushes with the law and if the police check their records this would be proven.“It would be very silly of my son to go get involved in something like that since he is a well-known person. Every Sunday his face is on the television so why would he want to put himself in such a situation where he would be easily recognized?”The family has sought the services of a prominent lawyer who has since filed a writ of Habeas Corpus in the High Court calling on the Commissioner of Police to show cause why he should not be released from police custody. The case should be called in the High Court later today.Peters was gunned down two Mondays ago while he and other crewmen were removing illegal electrical connections in Lamaha Park. The 59 year-old retired Senior Superintendent of Police, was shot several times in his head and chest and died en route to the hospital. The gunmen relieved Peters of his licensed firearm. |
