The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has introduced the Interns and Volunteers programme (I&V),Andre Tippett Patriots Jersey, which is aimed at expanding human resources capacity and broadening the constituency.Executive Director of GCCI, Jean Bacchus,Greg Lloyd Steelers Jersey, said that the Chamber recently developed a five-year strategic plan which was launched in August.To date,LeGarrette Blount Patriots Jersey, she added,Tedy Bruschi Patriots Jersey, all of the activities outlined in the plan have been accomplished.However, Bacchus noted that in drawing up the strategic plan they recognised that they did not have the resources to recruit additional staff in order to delegate responsibility adequately.“At the moment,Atlanta Falcons Jersey, our resources are very limited…if we can expand our current staff level we will be able to achieve more…because we don’t have sufficient staff; the little staff we have is stretched.”As a result of this, GCCI decided to introduce the Interns and Volunteers programme, Bacchus said.This programme is aimed at expanding human resources capacity and broadening the constituency with the opportunity for professional and practical experience in the development of and management of businesses in a competitive environment.This is achieved through interns and volunteers working in specific pragmatic areas of the Chamber, GCCI contends.The Interns and Volunteers initiative is designed to build capacity through the opening of opportunities for promising individuals to learn and contribute to areas relating to business development, through achievement of specific projects required by Chamber to fulfill its mandate.The objectives are to provide opportunities for Guyanese and other nationals to gain practical experience in a dynamic, private sector business environment while contributing towards the outputs of the Chamber.Interns are outstanding students who are appointed on a competitive process following advertisement of the opening. Internship positions do not carry a stipend. Interns must be 16 years and over.Bacchus said that volunteerism is now recognized by the international community as a valuable, cross-cutting phenomenon which deserves serious attention on the part of governments and the United Nations system.
