Yesterday, a Lance Corporal of the Guyana Police Force and a taxi driver were granted bail after being charged with receiving in excess of $6M worth in stolen excavator parts.Lance Corporal Heralall Seeram was first to appear before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.It is alleged that on Monday last (April 26) he received a stolen item (one Hydraulic pump valued at $3.5M), the property of Suresh Jagnandan.The charge was indictable and the accused was not required to plead.He was represented by Attorney Patrice Henry who in his bail application told the court that his client is currently a serving member of the Guyana Police Force and has made a significant contribution to that entity, more so to the court and its environs.Henry sought to explain to the court that when Seeram is not on duty, he drives a taxi in the Mon Repos area.According to Henry,Chris Webber Michigan Jersey, on the day in question, someone simply paid his client a taxi fare to drop the item off at an establishment at Better Hope East Coast Demerara.He said his client, being an officer of the law, would not know that the item was stolen and still up to carry it to a location.The police prosecutor did not object to bail and noted that the story which was told was indeed what transpired.Bail was granted to the tune of $75,000.
