As part of its untiring humanitarian efforts, the Lions Club of Stabroek, Georgetown, yesterday offered support in the form of spectacles to two persons in dire need.The recipients were 44-year-old Mahendranauth Khaloo of Triumph, East Coast Demerara, and nine-year-old Abiola Hutson, of Barr Street,Austin Jackson Jersey, Albouystown.The presentation was made at the Saint Stanislaus College Wednesday evening.In emphasising the acceptance of the Club in the local society,Erick Aybar Jersey, Lion Phillip Smith,Ricky Nolasco Jersey, reflected on how the members became aware of Khaloo’s need.According to Lion Smith,Texas Rangers Will Middlebrooks Jersey, who is employed at the Office of the Auditor General, it was a colleague of his who knew the man’s need and requested assistance on his behalf.Khaloo, a former painter by profession,Atlanta Braves Bartolo Colon Jersey, is unable to work as a result of a stroke he suffered two years ago and only survives and takes care of two young daughters with public assistance from the Ministry of Human Services.The man said that he could have ill-afforded to purchase the spectacles on his own.Hutson’s need,St. Louis Cardinals Dexter Fowler Jersey, on the other hand,Minnesota Twins Matt Belisle Jersey, was recognised during the Club’s educational outreach programme at the St Stephen’s Primary School,Cleveland Indians Edwin Encarnacion Jersey, which she attends.Lion Hemraj Seelall said that as part of the outreach, vision-screening sessions are conducted. The child’s vision problem was detected during one of these.He said that the Club became aware that the child was suffering for some time and had even been taken to Cuba to have the problem corrected. As fate would have it the child’s vision remained impaired,Martin Maldonado Jersey, thus she was selected for a pair of spectacles after her eyes were screened by a local professional.And according to him she is the second student of the school to benefit from such assistance from the Club.President of the Club, Julie Leitch, said that the continued support offered by the Club is in accordance with its motto to help the less fortunate. “We are happy to give these spectacles because we know they will be beneficial to the recipients.” |
