…prompts reporter’s arrestJust after noon yesterday, a car that was parked on D’Urban Street between John and Lime Streets burst into flames.Reports are that a passerby noticed smoke emanating from the car which was tightly locked. He immediately summoned the Guyana Fire Service, which responded promptly and put out the fire.The owner of the car who was only identified as Robert,cheap nfl jerseys, said that he was made aware that his car was on fire after fire service ranks visited his D’Urban Street home and informed him.The man told this newspaper that his vehicle has a third party insurance and that he could not say what caused the fire. The man said that as far as he is aware, his vehicle has no history of mechanical on electrical problems.Meanwhile, as Prime News Journalist Leroy Smith was leaving the scene, he noticed three prison officers attempting to open the back gate of the prisons.Smith told this newspaper that he then asked one of the officers what was going on but they told him that he could not film what was going on.According to Smith, he nevertheless began filming the exterior fence of the prisons as the prison officers kept the gate closed.Smith said he then heard one of the officers calling for backup and then next thing he knew he was being whisked away to the Brickdam Police Station where he was detained briefly.However, a police rank had advised him to desist from recording in the vicinity of the prison since the prison officers were about to conduct a sensitive exercise. Smith refused to co-operate.The three prison ranks were all made to give the police a statement as well as Smith who was subsequently released from police custody. |
