The car reportedly sped away and was later found abandoned further up the Corentyne. D’Andrade was subsequently identified as the driver, arrested and charged.As a result of the accident, Insanali was taken to hospital in a critical condition having sustained a fractured skull (behind his left ear), swelling in his brain, blood accumulation in his head, broken hips, lacerations on his face, legs and arms, a broken tooth and internal bleeding.He was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) High-Dependency Unity (HDU). At the time of the accident, Insanali was vacationing at Number 70 Village, Corentyne with relatives.The youth has since been air dashed to the United States where he is a patient at the Long Island Jewish Hospital, New York, United States of America (USA),after his family decided that he would be able to access better treatment and facilities in the USA.His aunt, Zalina Deen, had told Kaieteur News that Insanali has already undergone hip surgery.The doctors at the Long Island Jewish Hospital also found clots in his brain and were expected to conduct other treatment and surgeries in a short time span to drain the unnecessary fluid and buildup of blood in his brain.The distraught woman had stated that she had to visit the Traffic Chief, Neil Semple, in Georgetown to notify him of the matter and get some satisfaction, since the officers at Berbice requested that her family travel to Berbice to deal with the matter.She questioned, “Why must we go all the way up there? It wasn’t us who hit the child and sped away. It was the other person, so why should we have to go?”It is understood that D’Andrade had rented the car from another ex-police officer of Number 37 Brighton Village, Corentyne, Berbice but other officers told the family that the man had sold the car and could not be blamed for the accident.On Easter Monday morning, Insanali was standing in the corner of the road with his bicycle at the Number 70 Village when a white car overtook another vehicle at a fast rate of speed and collided with him.Insanali was hurled into the air a good distance from the spot where he was standing, and landed on his head onto the road. His mother, Ruksana Alladeen, who was in her relatives’ yard, heard the screech and thought that a vehicle had gotten into an accident with another vehicle on the road, and immediately turned her attention to the direction of the sound.To her surprise she saw her teenaged son “flying in the air with his bicycle following”. Alladeen stated that the car continued its journey, failing to stop or slow down.D’Andrade has been remanded until May 12.
