Yesterday a delegation from Caribbean Airlines held discussion with President Bharrat Jagdeo to discuss issues affecting the airline industry and to examine solutions.Following the meeting, Chairman of Caribbean Airlines Limited, George Nicholas; Vice Chairman Mohan Jaikaran; Head, Corporate Communication, Laura Asbjornsen and Airport Manager-South America, Carl Stuart, hosted a press briefing.At the briefing Nicholas said that having listened to complaints about the in transit situation for flights leaving Guyana for New York the airline is currently working towards direct flights to the US.According to Nicholas the flights will be operating three times a week. Already Caribbean Airlines has purchased a spanking new Boeing 737. That craft will have a seating capacity of 154.Nicholas said that for the first time every one of the aircrafts will be named and solely designated to a specific destination. This new aircraft will be named ‘The Spirit of Guyana’.The Chairman added that his company is currently working to straighten out the double and triple checking of luggage in various countries where Caribbean Airlines aircrafts land in transit. In addition, Nicholas said that Caribbean Airlines has also sourced nine new ATR aircrafts at a cost of US $200 M.Caribbean Airlines is also working on introducing an aircraft for Regional flights operating from Ogle. That carrier will see flights going into Brazil and other regional destinations. However before that plan gets on stream Caribbean Airlines is waiting for the upgrade of the Ogle Airport.Meanwhile the Chairman took time out to apologise to the travelling public who were affected during the Christmas season.
