The woman who claimed that she was sexually abused by Dr. Rama Sahadeo at his private clinic several years ago has handed over her statement to the Medical Council of Guyana.Her husband,Nick Bonino Penguins Jersey, who claimed he had accompanied the then 17-year-old to Sahadeo’s clinic when the alleged abuse occurred,Dustin Tokarski Canadiens Jersey, has also given the Council a statement.The Council received the statements on Wednesday.The couple has indicated that they are willing to testify to the Council and in court if necessary.They had given similar statements to the Medical Council and to Help and Shelter in 1997, but the ones that were with the Council were destroyed in the Ministry of Health fire.Members of that Council had suspended Sahadeo after he failed to turn up for a hearing into allegations made by the couple and a second woman.But in December 2011, Justice Dawn Gregory Barnes’ Court ruled that the Council had to give Sahadeo a hearing first before suspending him.He will remain off the list of registered physicians pending the outcome of the hearing.The woman’s allegation is that the incident occurred when she was 17, and had become pregnant for her boyfriend,Kris Letang Penguins Jersey, to whom she is now married.The woman’s husband stated that he had accompanied his then girlfriend to the clinic. He claimed that he had asked the physician to “take care” of her, since this was the woman he intended to marry.The woman alleged that when she entered a room at the clinic,Jason Garrison Lightning Jersey, she was given an anaesthetic and was then sexually molested.She reportedly confided in her boyfriend immediately after leaving the clinic.But the woman said that she never confided in her relatives out of fear of her very strict father.However, they eventually confided in officials of Help and Shelter and the Medical Council some 14 years ago after similar allegations against Sahadeo surfaced.In 1987, Dr. Sahadeo was charged and acquitted for the alleged rape of a 22-year-old housewife who had visited his clinic for an abortion. She alleged that the abuse occurred after she was given an anaesthetic.In April 1997,Patrick Roy Canadiens Jersey, a 25-year-old patient alleged that Sahadeo raped her when she visited his Thomas Street, North Cummingsburg clinic to have an abortion. The woman claimed that she was given an anaesthetic which left her helpless to defend herself.Sahadeo,Derick Brassard Rangers Jersey, 54,Dominic Moore Rangers Jersey, at the time,Anton Stralman Lightning Jersey, was charged with rape on June 3, 1997,Conor Sheary Penguins Jersey, but left the country on the very day that he was scheduled to appear in court. Juman-Yassin to issue a warrant for his arrest.An attorney representing Dr. Sahadeo later submitted a medical certificate for the accused explaining his absence.The charge against Dr. Sahadeo was later dropped after the patient indicated that she no longer wanted to testify. |
