A 23 year-old Georgetown Magistrates’ Court cashier who was on the run for over a year for allegedly stealing from the court’s Maintenance Department; was yesterday remanded by Magistrate Faith McGusty.An Indictable Larceny by Clerk or Servant charge was read to Tiffany Peters which stated that during the period February 7,Morgan Burnett Packers Jersey UK, 2012 – September 11,LeGarrette Blount Patriots Jersey UK, 2012,Donnie Shell Steelers Jersey UK, in Georgetown,Dwight Freeney Falcons Jersey UK, being employed as a clerk at the court,Brett Favre Falcons Jersey UK, she stole $3,045,000,Hines Ward Steelers Jersey UK, property of the State of Guyana.According to Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman,Sean Davis Steelers Jersey UK, Peters was employed as a cashier in the court’s maintenance section and her duties entailed writing up maintenance/affiliation cards and cash composition books, as well as collecting cash from persons paying monies.Blackman told the court that during the period mentioned in the charge, Peters made changes to receipts and records and stole the aforementioned sum of cash from her employer.He said that from the time the offence occurred, the defendant went on the run and acting on information received,Carnell Lake Steelers Jersey UK, police set up a sting operation which eventually led to her arrest.Prosecution objected to bail on account of the quantity of money involved and stated that, the fact that Peters was on the run for such a long time indicates that she is a flight risk who if granted bail, will not return to court.Magistrate McGusty told the woman who resides at Lot 35 Garden of Eden,Javon Hargrave Steelers Jersey UK, East Bank Demerara, that due to the circumstances of the offence and also because she attempted to run, bail will be refused and she is expected to return to the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on November 26. |
