Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) in collaboration with Caribbean Regional Organisation for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) at a workshop last Tuesday, expressed disappointment at the reaction of the furniture sector.Under the theme “Promotion Competitiveness in the Furniture Sector” and held at the Cara Lodge,NFL Jerseys Outlet, Quamina Street, cheap nfl jerseys, Georgetown,Arizona Diamondbacks Gregor Blanco Jersey, the workshop was poorly attended..Present were Ms. Evadnie Benfield, cheap nfl jerseys china, of GNBS; Dr. Michael Seepersaud,Jorge De La Rosa Jersey, CROSQ Project Manager; Mr. Sean Ramrattan from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce; and Mr. Elton Patram, Technical Officer of GNBS.Dr. Seepersaud said that he was disappointed that the representatives in the furniture sectors did not see it relevant to attend. Manufactures should know that they produce their own standards and GNBS only facilitates the business with opportunities and information on how to do so.The goal of the project is to strengthen the competitiveness of the Small and Micro Enterprises (SME)s which make up 80 percent of the total business sector in Guyana.“The GNBS makes no profit on standards for development; it is for the businesses and consumers benefit” said Seepersaud.According to Mr. Ramrattan society will benefit from standards and there seems to be confusion about the mandatory and voluntariness of businesses adopting the principles of standards. The GNBS should join with the private sector to contact the small businesses and educate them of the advantages of adopting standards. The Head of Information Services of GNBS,Gregor Blanco Jersey, Ms. Benfield said that the bureau will take measures in which businesses and consumers will be educated about information needed to bring about the necessary awareness of standards and is urging all businesses to come on board and take advantage of the benefitsThe Technical Officer of GNBS Mr. Patram also shared information on the various aspects of specification for wooden furniture. There are 15 member states in CROSQ that have democratic and transparent regional standards. |
