Under the theme “Commemorating our past, acknowledging our present and creating our future”,Clay Matthews Packers Jersey, the Ministry of Culture,Lynn Swann Steelers Jersey, Youth and Sport launched the celebrations of Guyana’s 173rd emancipation anniversary,Julio Jones Falcons Jersey, yesterday.Several African cultural groups were present at the launching which commenced with a “libation” by “Brother Andrew”.The “libation” was one of the most important and sacred part of the ceremony.Leader of the “libation”,Ty Montgomery Packers Jersey, “Brother Andrew”, along with the Minister of Culture,Hines Ward Steelers Jersey, Youth and Sport,Tevin Coleman Falcons Jersey, Dr. Frank Anthony and a child,Kevin Faulk Patriots Jersey, comprised the team.The trio represented the theme for this year’s emancipation. Dr. Anthony stood as the past, “Brother Andrew” as the present and the child as the future.During the “libation”,Ross Cockrell Steelers Jersey, respect was paid to the African ancestors who have worked hard and who made significant contributions to the nation.Dr. Anthony stated that Emancipation is “something beautiful to celebrate”. He highlighted Guyana’s rich and diverse culture while reflecting on its history.The Minister stressed that citizens need to acknowledge emancipation despite race and beliefs because “we have a collective history”. He added that “we should be as one on occasions like these and treat everyone like our ancestors”.Dr. Anthony also encouraged the audience to do whatever little they can to make Guyana a better place.Also forming part of the programme were poems, dances,Austin Hooper Falcons Jersey, drumming and singing, all of the African culture. |
