The Maritime Administration Department’s (MARAD) Hydrographic Surveyor, Darrell Fraser, has completed training in “Hydrography for Charting and Disaster Management” (Internationally Accredited Category B)MARAD’s Hydrographic Surveyor, Darrell Fraser is flanked by his Japanese trainers after he received his certification.in Kyushi Islands, Japan.According to a statement from MARAD, the 22-year-old Surveyor left Guyana last June, and returned on December 20, 2015 after successfully completing training.The training was fully sponsored by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Co-operation Agency’s (JICA) International Co-operation Program in collaboration with the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO).The programme attracted participants from seven other countries; namely the Ivory Coast, Egypt, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Tonga,cheap nfl jerseys china, and Vietnam.The primary function of the training was to empower the participants with the competence to conduct hydrographic surveys to international standards and specifications as promulgated by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO).They were exposed to extensive field and classroom studies, including basic Japanese language. Thus they are now well equipped with the knowledge of operating and managing hydrographic surveying equipment, and also to analyze nautical charts. The trainers were from the Japan Hydrographic and Oceanographic Department.Mr. Fraser joined the Department in 2014 and is a graduate of the land surveying program of the Government Technical Institute (GTI). He is now only the second person in this country to be accredited as a Category B Hydrographic Surveyor.
