Today,Jonas Siegenthaler Capitals Jersey, at 10:00 am,Guy Lafleur Canadiens Jersey, Peace Corps Guyana will swear in its 22nd group of Volunteers. The ceremony will take place at the Theatre Guild Playhouse, Kingston,Phil Esposito Rangers Jersey, Georgetown.This group of 33 Volunteers arrived in the country on February 07,Brett Hull Red Wings Jersey, 2010 and engaged in an intensive eight-week training programme.These Volunteers assigned within the Health, Education and Information Technology sectors,Andrew Shaw Canadiens Jersey, join 54 of their colleagues providing service in nine of the ten administrative regions of Guyana.During the period from 1966 until 1971,Noah Juulsen Canadiens Jersey, more than 160 Volunteers served in Guyana as Peace Corps Volunteers. The Peace Corps was invited to return to Guyana in 1993 by the late President Dr. Cheddi Jagan,Ron Duguay Rangers Jersey, and in 1995 the first group arrived. Since then,Petr Mrazek Red Wings Jersey, more than 400 American Volunteers have served the people of Guyana.Upon accepting the invitation to serve as Peace Corps Volunteers,Dylan Larkin Red Wings Jersey, they agreed to serve in Guyana for a two-year tour.The late U.S. President John F. Kennedy created the Peace Corps in March 1961 to provide human resource and technical assistance to developing countries that have requested this kind of support.The Peace Corps is pleased to provide this development assistance to the people of Guyana and extends its gratitude to the Government and People of Guyana for the hospitality and opportunity they offer these Volunteers to assist in achieving the nation’s development aspirations. |
