Massive extension works are on the cards for the expansion of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) at the University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC). This was recently revealed by the Director of the campus, Professor Daizal Samad.The Director stated that most developmental thinking depends on Information Technology (IT). He said that they will be extending the computer centre at the Tain Campus. And that is the vision I have. We’re waiting for the bandwidth and the fibre optics and so on; it’s not far away.”Prof. Samad said that UGBC will be participating in training trainers for the One Laptop Per Family Initiative (OLPF). New computer servers as well as plans to run workshops on the employment of technology in teaching are also in the pipeline.“What we need to do is use the technology at our disposal, and make teaching and learning much more efficient than it is, and we are going forward with it.”Further, the Director revealed that a new building dedicated to Communications will be erected shortly on the grounds of the Tain Campus. He stated that there is a capital budget for this venture and that the building will be “cutting- edge”.
