Home Affairs Minister Clement Rohee yesterday officially handed over 11 new vehicles,Brian Boyle Lightning Jersey, worth $44.2M,Adam Graves Rangers Jersey, to the Guyana Police Force.The vehicles,Jimmy Howard Red Wings Jersey, which include two pick-ups,Brooks Laich Capitals Jersey, five minibuses and two open-back trucks,Serge Savard Canadiens Jersey, were handed over to Acting Police Commissioner Henry Greene at a simple ceremony yesterday at the Tactical Services Unit Square,Derick Brassard Rangers Jersey, Eve Leary.The vehicles were purchased with funds allocated in the 2007 Budget.The presentation followed an earlier one that included a number of motorcycles at the same venue last year.In a brief address, Minister Rohee said that the Police should consider the presentation as a birthday gift,Jay Beagle Capitals Jersey, since it comes at a time when the Force is celebrating its 169th anniversary.He noted that the society has great expectations of the Police,Dylan Larkin Red Wings Jersey, and for them to satisfy these expectations they must have adequate resources.According to Rohee,Alex Killorn Lightning Jersey, Government has given a commitment to provide the necessary tools for the Police to effectively carry out its mandate, and the presentation is a manifestation of this commitment.Commissioner Henry Greene said that the two new trucks will be converted to transport prisoners in a safe environment. The decision comes on the heels of the escape of the notorious Jermaine ‘Skinny’ Charles from the Sparendaam Police Station lock-ups.Green assured the minister that every effort will be made to ensure that the vehicles are properly cared for. |
