A Guyanese family,Vladimir Tarasenko Jersey, currently on holiday overseas,Brandon Mashinter Jersey, will have to seek alternative shelter when they return after fire of unknown origin gutted their house at Good Hope on the East Coast of Demerara around mid-morningThe gutted structureyesterday. The fire which occurred at around 10:00 hours destroyed the home of Ramzan Gafoor, a spare parts and auto dealer who left Guyana sometime last week with his family. The interior of the single-flat concrete house,Travis Moen Jersey, which is located in what is popularly known as the Kissoon Scheme, suffered extensive damage. However, thanks to some concerned neighbours and his employees at his auto spares establishment,Patrik Berglund Jersey, Gafoor is fortunate not to have lost a few vehicles and other valuables that were stored in a garage beneath.A neighbour who lives a few houses away told Kaieteur News that he came out onto his verandah and saw smoke billowing from within the Gafoor’s house. He immediately concluded that the house was on fire,Joe Mullen Jersey, especially since he saw some other villagers already gathering outside the well-secured property. He said that the fire service was contacted,Jonas Brodin Jersey, while some villagers contemplated breaking the gate to get into the yard to remove the vehicles that were parked inside.Eventually,Jonathan Drouin Team North America Jersey, workers at Gafoor’s business place, which is located about a mile away on the East Coast Demerara Public Road,Shayne Corson Jersey, arrived and entered the yard and began removing things of value.Residents lamented the length of time that firefighters took to arrive at the scene.Again they believe that had they arrived earlier there would have been less damage.“Dey like dey come from town. Dey tek about half hour to three-quarter hour before they come, and then when dey come, dey had to set up. If dey de come earlier they coulda save de building,Chris Chelios Jersey,” the neighbour said. |
