A taxi driver from Meten-Meer-Zorg,Carlos Zambrano Cubs Jersey, West Coast Demerara, has been remanded to prison after being charged for illegal possession of a grenade. The accused, Shane Simon, made his appearance yesterday at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Fazil Azeez.It is alleged that the 34 year-old taxi driver, on Saturday June 6th last,Rusney Castillo Red Sox Jersey, had in his possession one hand grenade without lawful authority.To the charge,Miguel Montero Cubs Jersey, Simon who was represented by defence counsel Hookumchand,Carlton Fisk Red Sox Jersey, pleaded not guilty.Hookumchand,Pedro Martinez Red Sox Jersey, in a bail application, told the court that his client has a fixed place of abode at Lot 58 Prem Nagar, Meten-Meer-Zorg.He further stated that the grenade could not be his client’s since where it was found is frequent by several persons.However, Police Prosecutor Sherwin Matthews objected to bail.He asked that Magistrate Azeez consider the seriousness of the offence.As such,David Robertson White Sox Jersey, bail was refused and Simon is expected to make his next court appearance on June 26.Initial reports had stated that on Saturday last, acting on information, police conducted a search on Simon’s home.During the search, the ranks reportedly found the grenade in a dresser in a bedroom in the man’s house.He reportedly told investigators that he had found the grenade in a cane field. |
