Some 64 third form students of the New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary School (NAMS) were on Monday ordered to leave the premises because they were not in possession of the Literature Text Book “A Brighter Sun”.The students were told to go home and not return to school unless they acquired the book.A number of irate parents contacted Kaieteur News to vent their frustration over the behaviour of the school. The parents stated that they were annoyed that the school just chose to send the students out of the compound and on to the road,Texas Rangers Will Middlebrooks Jersey, because they did not have a textbook. The parents stated that they were very interested in their children’s education, but things are expensive. They stated that they are not against the students acquiring their necessary books. One of the books cost as much as $1,Edwin Encarnacion Jersey,200,Jung-ho Kang Jersey, plus uniform,Chris Carter Jersey, other books,Atlanta Braves R.A. Dickey Jersey, travel,Austin Jackson Jersey, cost for desk and benches; it all adds up.Some of the students had nowhere to go. While some went home,New York Yankees Aroldis Chapman Jersey, some stayed on the road,San Diego Padres Jhoulys Chacin Jersey, some sneaked back into the school and some went to their parents’ work place. Some of the students were from West Coast Berbice and Central Corentyne. One parent enquired if it is right that the school could send home the students‘ “just like that”. Kaieteur News understands that the students had over six weeks to get the books. However the parents are stating that education is not free any more. They cite the exorbitant cost of travel especially for those travelling from West Coast Berbice,Atlanta Braves Sean Rodriguez Jersey, where a bus charges as much as $300 and $400.This forced many students to linger around until the afternoon when there were able to catch the much cheaper ferry and pay $60. |
