We seem to have lost the old time tradition whereby the community used to gather in large numbers at nights under a tree and with moonlight to listen and tell stories.The parish, for the second time around, hosted a Grand Tea Party and Community Gathering on the lawns of the Catholic complex at Pope Street.As usual, the area was transformed into a colourful sea of people who wore all kinds of dazzling coloured clothing, ladies elegantly dressed, and children who were just happy to be away from home in a relaxing atmosphere.Tea was served from 2:30pm- 5:00pm. Families and friends just sat back and relaxed, enjoying the cool breezy atmosphere and soft music of yesteryear. The crowd was also entertained by a young- adult youth group which sang songs, recited poems and acted a few skits.Tea was served in the traditional Chinaware. People also had a choice between tea and iced tea. A plate consisting of bite-sized pastries and a variety of sweet and savoury items were also served along with tea; real value for money as one person at the event said.It is a truly classy and signature event that many persons have looked forward to for the past three years of its existence.The first year was a grand success. Former Deputy Mayor of New Amsterdam, the late Hyacinth James had declared that tea party in 2009 opened.Last year,Nolan Arenado Rockies Jersey, the Guyana Police Force Steel Band serenaded the party- goers with nice tunes. Several colourful and creative hats were on sale, and they sold out very quickly.
