Yesterday persons thronged the streets of Georgetown to get a glimpse of the annual Children’s Costume Parade 2011 even though it kicked off with under gloomy skies that opened up later in the morning.Kingston Secondary’s “Culture Queen with Pride” as the float hit the streets of Georgetown heading towards the National Park Tarmac.In the scattered showers,Authentic Kyle Korver Hawks Jersey, the parade took off from Independence Park (formerly the Parade Ground) and made its way into the National Park after meandering through the city streets. Present to start off the day’s activities was Minister of Education,Tristan Thompson Cavaliers Jersey, Shaik Baksh.The procession made its way east along Middle Street,Karl Malone USA Jersey, then north into Camp  Street,David Robinson USA Jersey, east into Lamaha Street and finally north into Albert Street and then into the National Park.Region Two’s float under the theme of “Grow More Food”,Scottie Pippen USA Jersey, along with Minister of Education,Authentic Tobias Harris Pistons Jersey, Shaik Baksh as the Children’s Costume Parade 2011 kicked off .Baksh said that he was pleased with the turnout while noting it was more than expected. The Minister said that he was pleased with the topics chosen to be highlighted by the different schools.This year’s event saw participation from some 60 schools from the various regions. There were the Nursery,Christian Laettner USA Jersey, Primary and Secondary schools bands and individual presentations. In addition,Al Horford Celtics Swingman Jersey, this year’s competition saw participation from students who were beneficiaries of the Hinterland Scholarship programme,Carmelo Anthony USA Jersey, the HIV Prevention Project (Ministry of Education) and the Z-Bra Children Network.At the National Park the event was fully endorsed by Minister of Culture Youth and Sports Dr. Frank Anthony who was seen with a pleased expression as he viewed the children’s performances. They “mashed up the place” decked in their colourful costumes and gave great overall presentations with their well-designed floats.Hundreds of families turned up to see their loved ones exhibit the “Mash fever” and had a very exciting and fun-filled day. Results for the winners of this competition will be released subsequently.
