LIAT says it is complying with new US measures that will require travellers to give more personal information.– data intended to prevent ‘watch list’ misidentificationNew US traveling requirements have seen at least one regional airline announcing measures requiring passengers to provide more information.According to LIAT in a statement Friday, as of January 3rd, new booking policies will mandate all travellers, including infants and children, to provide additional information when making a reservation or purchasing tickets.“The new requirements are driven by LIAT’s compliance with the Secure Flight Programme recently introduced by the United States Transportation Security Administration (TSA),” LIAT explained in a release.A passenger is expected to enter full name, including middle names, as it appears on the passenger’s non-expired government issued photo ID, date of birth and gender.“In addition to the above information, all LIAT passengers travelling to and from San Juan, St. Thomas and St. Croix will be required to provide a redress number, if applicable.”LIAT warned that the information must be provided whether bookings are being done at a LIAT ticket office; through the LIAT Call Centre; on the LIAT website or through a travel agency.“Customers should take note that they will not be able to complete a booking transaction until they provide full name, including middle names; date of birth, gender and where applicable, a redress number of all the persons for whom reservations are being made or tickets are being purchased.”Secure Flight, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)’s behind-the-scenes watch list matching program, fulfills a key recommendation of the 9/11 Commission by assuming responsibility of watch list matching from individual airlines. By establishing a consistent watch list matching system, Secure Flight enhances aviation security and more effectively facilitates air travel for passengers.According to the TSA website, Secure Flight requires airlines to collect a passenger’s full name (as it appears on government-issued ID), date of birth, gender and Redress Number (if applicable).“By providing complete information, passengers can significantly decrease the likelihood of watch list misidentification. Secure Flight watch list matching takes a matter of seconds to complete, and providing this data enables passengers to print their boarding passes at home or at an airline kiosk.”For airlines, November 1, 2010, marked the end of the year-long grace period to clear out their systems of older reservations made before Secure Flight requirements took effect in October 2009.“After November 1,Wholesale Jerseys, 2010, Secure Flight will not conduct watch list matching or approve the issuance of a boarding pass by an airline if complete passenger data is not submitted, “ the TSA had warned.LIAT flies to several regional destinations, including Guyana and Trinidad. |
