The Rotaract Club of the University of Guyana recently installed its second board at the YMCA and the members have undertaken to execute a year of activities.The new board comprises President Kwesi Elliot, Vice President Derwin McKenzie, Secretary Charis Griffith, Treasurer Shane Pearce and Directors Lori Ann Jacobs, June Ann Alexander and Kimberley Pollydore.The new UG Rotaract board, from left President Kwesi Elliot, Vice President Derwin McKenzie, Secretary Charis Griffith, Treasurer Shane Pearce and Directors Lori Ann Jacobs, June Ann Alexander and Kimberley Pollydore.Guest speaker and Rotarian Paulette Paul, at the installment, encouraged the Club to undertake literacy projects pointed to the large number of illiterates in Guyana. She also advocated for other projects aimed at reducing the use of plastic bags.Among the invitees were Assistant Governor for the Rotary Clubs Guyana,Cheap NFL Jerseys China Wholesale, Keith Williams, President of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, Pradeep Samtani, and Registrar of the University of Guyana, Vincent Alexander.Assistant Governor Keith Williams charged the Club to double its current membership during the current year by having each member invite at least one person into membership.Some of the projects to be undertaken this year include donation of hampers to single parent mothers, sessions on small business development and management, and a family fun day.Past President Lori Ann Jacobs highlighting the clubs successes during her tenure, reflected on the book donation to the Cummings Lodge Secondary School.Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women the ages of 18 and 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and are sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true “partners in service” and key members of the family of Rotary.As one of Rotary’s most significant and fastest growing service programmes, with more than 7,000 clubs in about 163 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon. |
