Eighteen teachers from schools in Region Two are better trained to now provide effective leadership qualities in various departments to which they have been assigned in their schools. They recently completed a two-year certificate course in education management.The graduation ceremony was held in the auditorium of the Anna Regina Secondary school on Wednesday. The graduates were presented with certificates and trophies.Some of the graduates at Anna Regina Secondary schoolMaster trainer, retired headmaster, Maydha Persaud, explained that the education management course became operational in Region Two seven years ago after the findings from a comprehensive survey conducted revealed that students’ performance in school have declined.Persaud said that the course which was designed for senior heads was intended to train those senior teachers as administrators and managers.Persaud said that the programme was piloted in Essequibo in 2007. Ever since then it became a success story; all 32 heads and heads of department in Region Two have been trained in the area of leadership management.Persaud stated also that the programme originated from Africa. In Guyana, the programme comes under National Center For Educational, Resource Development (NCERD).The former headmaster who taught for 35 years and is a product of the education management course reminded that a teacher should be regarded as one who exhibits “managerial style”; one who embraces teaching as a “heartbeat”.Teaching is about substance and students are the consumers of knowledge, he said. He later urged the graduates to be that light bulb,NFL Jerseys Cheap, to be accountable and to put what they have learned into practice.The best graduating student, Nadia Pearce encouraged her fellow teachers to remain passionate about their profession and to deliver.Regional Executive Officer, Rupert Hopkinson, and Region Two chairman, Devenand Ramdatt, encouraged the graduates to be committed to deliver effectively.Tonzalita Smith, a teacher of the Eighth of May Secondary in Dartmouth; and Nadia Pearce attached at the Abram -Zuil Secondary School were adjudged the best graduating teachers. |
