An Essequibo NDC Chairman has been accused of attempted rape. The man is also the President of a Hindu Mandir in the community, as well as the Vice-Chairman of the West Demerara branch of a Hindu organisation.The charges were filed at the Leonora Police Station last night by a couple in their mid-thirties. They first tried to keep it within the religious group by reporting it to the various leaders as well as to National Head of the Hindu organisation. But to date no assistance was forthcoming.The threats continued and they decided to report the matter to the police.The Leonora Police subsequently sent a team out to pick up the NDC Chairman, but up to press time were unable to locate him. The intention was to have a confrontation between the man and his accusers at the Police Station before deciding on what action to take. As the investigations into the allegations made by the couple continue, further attempts will be made to locate the official for questioning.It has been alleged that as President of the Mandir,LeGarrette Blount Patriots Jersey, the NDC Chairman has constantly abused his position by behaving in the same manner towards other female members.
