Police are trying to locate seven juveniles who escaped recently from the New Opportunity Corps (NOC).It is unclear how the juveniles slipped out of the Essequibo facility, but late in the evening on Saturday, routine checks were made and it was discovered that the inmates were missing.Kaieteur News understands that the youths were all serving time for offences ranging from break and enter and larceny, to possession of illegal substances and wounding.According to sources, 14 inmates managed to flee from the facility within the past few weeks. Of the 14, only three have been recaptured.Residents feel that some of the same escapees are responsible for criminal activities on the Essequibo coast.Some lawmen observed that that there seems to be lax security at the NOC.What is more disturbing is the fact that there is no proper system in place to deal with when the escapees are recaptured.As it is now, once an escapee is recaptured, he is passed through the court system and sent back  to the same facility.One senior police officer had noted that given this fact, the inmates have nothing deterring them from escaping, since they are aware of the fact that they would end up back at the NOC.
