Twenty-nine apprentices will now prepare to embark upon a delightful journey that seeks to help them make a successful transition from school and into the work environment.The Apprenticeship Programme will offer the same experiences the 121 young men and women have enjoyed over the past five years during their respective seven month stints.The Apprentices along with members of Republic Bank and Officials of the Ministry of EducationThe Programme which started over two decades ago at Republic Bank Limited, Trinidad and Tobago was introduced to Guyana in 2008. The programme serves to bridge the gap between the end of the participants’ school life and the start of their career.Through the Apprenticeship, participants are enabled to be more marketable in their career pursuits and are also offered the tools and insights that they can only get on the job.The Apprenticeship programme is geared to guide the apprentices through a process of personal and professional growth and includes facets that when combined, will teach the youths valuable skills for professional and social development.The sixth batch of Apprentices was welcomed to the Republic Bank family at the launch ceremony on Friday last which was held at the Woodbine Room of the Cara Lodge on Quamina Street, Georgetown.In addition to being exposed to both classroom and on-the-job training, they will also, be introduced to the element of care and compassion for the less fortunate through the “Care-A-Van” course. A day of fun and relaxation at a specially selected location will also be part of the Youth Link Experience.During his feature address, Managing Director of the Bank, Mr. John Alves, noted the initiative is also another opportunity for the Bank to achieve its vision of building successful societies, and make a difference by playing an integral role in national development.“Over the next seven months, our Apprentices will be afforded the necessary tools, training, coaching and guidance, through practical and theoretical aspects of banking.””They will also3be taught basic marketable skills required to improve their career options, and provided a preview of what goes on in the world of work. Having valuable and reputable work experience, with perspective to inform their future work ethic, relations and aspirations, will no doubt be to their advantage. Their stint will also forge new friendships,” said Alves.Alves added that upon completion of the programme, there will be a graduation ceremony, at which certificates will be distributed to all successful participants. He hopes that the certificates will soon be recognized under the Board of Industrial Training Certification Programme.Also present at the event was the Chief Education Officer, Mr. Olato Sam who urged the apprentices in attendance to be steadfast in their resolve to not only complete the exercise but to excel and graduate with distinction.
