The charge that an underage Brazilian female was held against her will at the Red Dragon Night Club on Robb Street in Georgetown was read yesterday to Selwyn Lewis, 33, of Nutmeg Street, Festival City by Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.When the case was first heard in court on April 5, 2013, before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell, the defendant did not appear alongside 61-year-old co-accused Raymond “Clement” Ali of 15 Delhi Street, Prashad Nagar. Ali is the owner of the popular strip club.The defendant was not required to plead to the indictable charge, the particulars of which stated that within the period of June 1 to June 30, 2011, the defendant trafficked a 15-year-old female for the purpose of exploitation at Red Dragon.The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that it is a serious offence, that the defendant travels frequently and may flee the district if granted bail, and that pending the outcome of ongoing investigations, it is likely that he may face other charges.The defendant’s lawyer, Peter Hugh, made it known to the court that his client was released on station bail in the sum of $10,000 for the matter. Hugh added that if his client is the holder of a passport, he is willing to lodge it at the station.  The lawyer also reminded the court that the owner of the business was also charged in relation to the matter. It was then the lawyer requested bail for his 33-year-old client.The defendant was granted bail in the sum of $650,000 and ordered to return to court on June 4.
