Police were last night searching for a hit-and-run driver who killed a mother of three and left a teenage girl with broken limbs after hitting them down near Crane, West Coast Demerara.Sources identified the dead woman as 26-year-old Kishrie Persaud, called Nanda, of Lot 10 Crane Old Road. The injured girl has been identified as Persaud’s 16-year-old neighbour, Tricia De Freitas.De Freitas has been admitted to a city hospital.The accident occurred at around 20:00 hrs.Kaieteur News was told that the females were heading home with a male friend, Harry Brijmohan, when the vehicle, which was heading towards Vreed-en-Hoop, struck them.Brijmohan told Kaieteur News that he was riding his bicycle, and Persaud and De Fretias were walking behind, when he saw a dark-coloured vehicle that looked “like a Cherokee or a Pathfinder”, speeding towards him.He said that he managed to take evasive action just as the vehicle ploughed into the two females.Brijmohan said that De Freitas was hurled into a shallow trench while Persaud was run over by the vehicle, which continued heading towards Vreed-en-Hoop.The injured females were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where Persaud was pronounced dead. De Freitas was transferred to a city hospital.Kaieteur News understands that Persaud is survived by her reputed husband, Terry Singh, and the couple’s three children, aged eight, five and nine months.At press time, police were setting up roadblocks on the West Bank of Demerara and other areas in an attempt to apprehend the driver.
