City businessman Davenand Singh is at his wits’ end given the number of times his business, and most importantly his employees, have been attacked by thieves.Singh, who is proprietor of the Cell Point Store on Regent Street, Bourda, said that the establishment was attacked sometime around 14:45 hours yesterday. He told Kaieteur News that one man, brandishing a knife, stormed into the store and held up a female employee. Singh related that the intruder then dragged the woman to the back of the store where he accosted another female employee as he began to make his demands.The man then reportedly took both women to the washroom area where he tied them up with duct tape. Once both women were bound and gagged, the bandit then turned his attention to a bag with cash, which was at the back of the office. While in the store, he also helped himself to gadgets including some expensive phones, digital cameras, DVD players and other accessories.The assailant then made good his escape.Singh said once his employees noticed that the scrambling in the store had died down, one of them untied herself and then assisted her colleague. An alarm was raised and the police were summoned to the location.However, what was strange about the entire ordeal was the fact that it happened when only the female employees were in the store. This publication was told that an electrician was doing some work at the store, but moments before the robbery occurred he disappeared. The man then came back to the store once the act was committed and simply enquired whether his phone was stolen.“That we find really strange. He (bandit) knew exactly who would have been able to help him with the money and walked in and knew where a bag was containing cash.”Kaieteur News understands that earlier in the day one of the store’s employees had taken money out of the same bag to give the electrician to make a purchase.Meanwhile, the electrician has since been taken into police custody to assist with investigation.While the businessman is happy that none of his employees were injured, despite the fact that they were roughed up, he said he is frustrated with the constant attacks on his business. In March last year, there was an attack on the premises, however quick thinking on the part of an employee saved what could have been major losses.Two men had stormed the store holding an employee at knife point. Luckily another employee who was at the back of the store pressed the alarm which sent the men fleeing, but not before grabbing two cellular phones. And on an occasion before that, the businessman was robbed as he was about to enter his home.
