Desmond Innis considers himself lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries on Holy Thursday night after crashing into a horse on the main roadway in Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.Harris told Kaieteur News that he was heading into the community at around 20:00 hrs when the horse suddenly ran into his path. The impact shattered both windscreens, while Innis had to be treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre to remove a sliver of broken glass from one of his eyes. The horse was unhurt, and Innis later took the animal, which is branded, to the Golden Grove Police Station. Kaieteur News was unable to find out whether the owner was located. This was easier said than done, since the horse initially refused to accompany him.Despite several complaints to the authorities, roaming cattle continue to be a nuisance in the Grove/Diamond Housing schemes. Several drivers have had their vehicles damaged after colliding with the strays, and a motorcyclist was killed in this manner some years ago. Some residents have suggested that a section of the large Golden Grove Police Station compound could be used to impound the strays. |
