One person is dead and several injured following a horrific crash which occurred onThe three vehicles involve in the accident.Thursday on the Bengal Corentyne Public Road. The accident allegedly occurred about 18:30 hrs on Bengal Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.Dead is Mavin Budhoo, 16, a student of Skeldon High School and of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice.The accident involved minibus  BPP 2259 which was packed with school children and some other teenagers, motor car PSS 5063  and motor lorry GPP 8452 which were at the side of the road reportedly discharging sand.According to information Budhoo and others were returning home after travelling to the Albion Community Centre to witness the Corentyne segment of the Children’s Mashramani competition. Information revealed that minibus BPP 2259 owned by Ravin Chandradat of No. 50 Village, Corentyne and being driven by Leon Parloo of No. 69 Village, Corentyne, was heading further up the Corentyne at a fast rate of speed behind motor car PSS 5063.That car was being driven by Ravindra Dass, of Lot 17 Rampoor, Corriverton, Corentyne, Berbice.Reports are that while in the vicinity of the Rambrich Gas Station, the minibus driver attempted to overtake the motor car and in the process clipped the right front of the said motor car. The impact forced the motor car off the road and into the right front (cab) of a truck which was parked on the eastern side of the road.The driver of the minibus which was reportedly overloaded with students and persons from the NPIC lost control and the vehicle turned turtle several times.  It slammed into a fence and then crashed into a post, ending up on its right side.It was reported that while the vehicle was rolling over three passengers fell out, including Budhoo who was hurled high in the air after the bus crashed into the post and came to rest. The bus which was extensively damaged ended on its side.Budhoo, a fifth form student who was preparing to write his CSEC examination soon, reportedly landed on his head.The passengers were taken out of the vehicle by public spirited citizens and rushed to the Port Mourant hospital. Reports are that Budhoo was still alive when he was picked up along with the others, but died on arrival at the hospital.The driver who initially fled the scene subsequently turned himself in along with family members at the No. 51 Police Station.Injured are Ruth Ramotar, 17, of No. 49 Village; Subrina James, 17, of Skeldon, both of them employees at the NPIC at Port Mourant,  Natasha Ramballi, 15, of No. 63 Village; Britney Toney, 13, of Skeldon, Benita Arjune, 15, of Lot 17 Grant 1806 Crabwood Creek; Chandranie Ramwattie, 14, of No. 64 Village; Takaram Dhanraj, 16, of Grant 108 Crabwood Creek; Marcia David, 15, of Lot 18 Grant 1305 Crabwood Creek; and Malisha Ragnauth, 15 of Lot 20-6 No. 64 Village, Corentyne, Berbice.Ruth Ramoutar along with Natasha Ramballi, Subrina James, Venita Arjune, Chandranie Punwari and Britney Tony were referred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Ramoutar and Punwari were further transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The others were treated and sent away. Ruth Ramoutar was reported to be in a critical condition.The motor car was extensively damaged while minor damage was done to the lorry.The driver of motor car and the lorry were taken into custody and subsequently released.Budhoo leaves to mourn his father, Chico, who is in the United States his mother, Lina, and two sisters and one brother. He was the third child.Charges are likely soon.
