Some teachers at the Friendship Secondary School, East Bank Demerara are protesting what they describe as the terrible condition of the school. They are also urging their Head teacher, and deputy Head teacher to make representation at the level of the Ministry of Education so that interventions can be made to rectify the situation.Teachers said that currently they are not even housed in a suitable staff room. There are only two tables and a few chairs, which are expected to accommodate some 30 teachers at the learning institution.The teachers said that due to the awful state of the staff room, most teachers would resort to staying in their classroom and have their meals.According to one teacher who prefers to remain anonymous, the school does not have adequate furniture to accommodate the children who must sit three in a bench instead of two.Kaieteur News understands that in most cases, students would have to take turns sitting in their classes, due to the shortage in furniture.This, the teacher noted, is very uncomfortable for the children, as it takes away a lot of learning time from the students.She also noted that the school is in such a deplorable situation that there is hardly the continuous flow of water at the institution. Teachers are also made to purchase their own drinking water, as none is made available at the school.The teachers are hoping that some representation would be made on their behalf so that something can be done to the school in order to relieve them of their distress.
