Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan on Monday remanded a minibus driver to prison, after he was charged with causing the death of a pedestrian by dangerous driving.Fitzroy AlderFitzroy Alder, 38, of East Ruimveldt,Wholesale China Jerseys, Georgetown, is accused of driving minibus BTT 3835 on July 17, at Durban Street, in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Romel Juner.Alder denied the allegation when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.The matter was adjourned until August 6.Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones informed the court that on the day in question, the defendant was driving the minibus proceeding at a fast rate along the northern side of Durban Street.He said when the bus reached the intersection at Bent and Lime Streets; it collided with the sixty year-old man, who was crossing the road at the time.Jones said that the impact of the collision caused Juner to pitch several feet away. He was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.According to reports, Juner had just left a popular bar in the area with a female companion in ‘high spirits’ as the minibus was speeding along the route.Kaieteur News understands that the pedestrian was pitched some 15 feet away from the collision spot. He lay bleeding on the street for a while before he was transported to the hospital by the driver of the minibus. |
