In an effort to improve the literacy and numeracy levels of primary school students, the Ministry of Education has begun a series of workshops.These activities are organized for school administrators and classroom practitioners across Guyana.The workshops are to analyse the evidence gleaned from the diagnostic assessments administered at the Grades Two and Four.The subject areas to be addressed are Mathematics, English Language and Reading.The objectives of the training programme are to sensitise primary school administrators and teachers of the importance of the National Assessments, to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to administer the Assessments and to interpret the individual School Reports and to identify a variety of teaching strategies and activities and train participants to use them.The workshops commenced yesterday and will continue throughout the August Vacation. The first in the series of workshop began on July 7, last at the National Centre for Educational Resource and Development (NCERD) for the Georgetown Education District.
