Some residents in the “Container City” which is nestled aback of the John Fernandes Container Wharf were yesterday peeved with the actions of some police ranks yesterday afternoon after one of them shot a dog which barked at him.A two-year old-boy was at the time playing with the pregnant animal.This newspaper understands that this action was preceded by a search by ranks who had in their custody an individual they had held in connection with a multi-million-dollar robbery on the East Bank of Demerara.The suspect and several other persons were in a van at the scene.Following the search the men were whisked away in the waiting police vehicle.The drama did not end there as two ranks from the motorbike patrol came speeding through the street and the dog barked at him. He reportedly pulled his sidearm and shot the dog.The bullet entered the dog’s back and exited through its underside.The residents were extremely upset at the action of the rank given that the dog did not attack him coupled with the fact that the toddler was playing with the dog at the time and there were other small children in close proximity as well.The rank is reported to have fired the shot and continued riding as though nothing had happened according to the residents.
