A vagrant was yesterday sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.  Intikab Ali, 36, pleaded guilty to a charge which states that on February 13, he stole a quantity of craft valued $144,000 property of Norman Vieira.According to Police Prosecutor, Denise Griffith, on the day in question, around 15:30 hrs, the virtual complainant who is a craftsman who sells on Main Street, had the articles in a bag. She further explained that the VC proceeded to take some of the items out of a bag to display them and left a few articles in the bag.After attending to some customers, the VC turned around to look for his bag but discovered that it was missing.Acting upon information that was received by the VC, the items were found in a nearby community in a resident’s possession. The matter was reported and the defendant was caught and told of the offence.When asked by the presiding magistrate if he had anything to say, Ali said that he makes a living on the streets and simply found the items on the roadside.He further told the magistrate that a majority of the items that the prosecutor stated that was stolen were not in the bag when he picked it up.He then begged the magistrate for leniency, noting that he was never arrested. He was given twelve months.
