Now it’s the heavy rainfall in recentA few hardy shoppers in the flooded Stabroek Marketdays that has made things gloomy for vendors down at the Stabroek Market Square with two more days remaining for Christmas.Vendors complained that only the die-hard Christmas shoppers are venturing out in the inclement weather.The recent elections had caused headaches for some sections of the business community since some customers were apprehensive of shopping because of the protests by supporters of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU).According to vendors down at the Stabroek Market Square, November and December month have been ‘dead’.“You won’t believe it’s Christmas, they just mess up the holiday with this election. Now it’s the rain.”When Kaieteur News visited the Stabroek Market on Friday, vendors were seen removing plastic coverings from their items or draining water off their hastily erected tents.While vendors outside the Stabroek Market are busy safeguarding their items from the rain, sellers inside the market were busy placing boards for customers to walk on.“We ain’t getting none none sale, none none at all,” one female vendor complained.According to another vendor, the gutters “are stinking, and unhealthy.“Customers are hurrying to go home because of this rain” a third vendor noted. |
