Former Chief Planner of the Ministry of Finance, Clyde Roopchand, has died in New York.Clyde RoopchandYesterday, President David Granger in expressing condolences via a statement said Roopchand, who was awarded the Cacique’s Crown of Honour (CCH) in 2011, served for many years in the State Planning Secretariat and Ministry of Finance.Clyde Roopchand was born on February 2nd 1947 at Friendship Village, East Coast Demerara, and attended the St. Anthony’s R.C. School, Friendship; Central High School, Georgetown; and the University of Guyana. From 1967 to 1974, he taught at the St. Anthony’s R.C. School.After graduating from UG, in 1975, he secured employment with the Ministry of Economic Development as an economist.Later, as the Chief Planning Officer in the State Planning Secretariat, his job responsibilities included designing, developing and managing the Public Sector Investment Programme, appraisal and monitoring of Public Sector projects and participation in the preparation of the National Budget. He sat on several boards and was the chairman of Guyana Revenue Authority.A father of three, a few years ago, as part of the commemoration of the 170th Anniversary of the Purchase of Buxton, a new street was named after him. |
