Several stakeholders turned out at the Guyana National Service Ground on Friday for a Fire Safety and Prevention Seminar. The seminar was facilitated by the Guyana Fire Service,Deion Jones Falcons Jersey, the Fire Advisory Board and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce.During the forum presentations were made by persons from various areas, including insurance companies,John Stallworth Steelers Jersey, the Fire Service and members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce.Speaking on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce was Liz Rahaman,Julio Jones Falcons Jersey, who called on businesses to pay more attention to their safety measures. She noted that emphasis should be placed on storage of items in businesses as well an electrical installation.Fire Chief Marlon Gentle alluded to the fact that there has been a decrease in the number of businesses that were destroyed by fire for this year as compared to last year. According to Gentle, for last year,Ernie Stautner Steelers Jersey, 11 businesses were destroyed by fire. For the same period this year only five businesses have been destroyed.He however noted that based on some of the fire inspection reports that he has seen,Brett Favre Packers Jersey, there are some areas that need urgent attention. Gentle pointed out that while businesses are focusing on the safety of their property they also need to pay attention to fire safety.“What we find is businesses in our society are using a lot of grill work and shutters but little emphasis is placed on safety…like emergency exits and proper ventilation.”He said that owners of businesses should also take into consideration the proper storage of their commodities.
