An ex-prisoner has been sentenced to serve another term in prison after he was convicted on a break and enter charge.The convict, 42-year-old Ronald Hurdle, of Corentyne, Berbice, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday on an allegation that on July 3 last, at Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara, he broke into the house of Sherlene Azore and stole one lap top computer, three cellular phones, one DVD player, a quantity of clothing, and other household articles totalling $1.9M.He pleaded guilty.The court was told that, while Hurdle was serving his time in prison, he visited Azore’s home on several occasions to perform certain chores.On his release from prison, since Hurdle knew the house so well, he broke into the property while Azore was not at home and removed the items.When she returned home, the school teacher found her house empty. Not even her wardrobe was spared.Hurdle was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.Also in the same court yesterday, a D’Urban and Smyth Street man was released on bail after he was charged with receiving stolen property.Gladston Norville was charged with receiving stolen property from Ronald Hurdle. It is alleged that he received from Hurdle a quantity of items totalling $65,000.The court was told that, acting on information received, police went to Norville’s home, where they recovered the stolen items which turned out to be the property of school teacher Azore.Norville told the police that Hurdle had sold him the items. He was placed on $25,000 bail and is expected to appear on July 21 at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
