– murder suspectedFamily members of 33-year-old Navindra Shamlall were at a loss for words yesterday after his lifeless body was found in a drain near to a Kali Mai Mandir, Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) around 11:00 hrs on Saturday evening.Kaieteur News understands that the body was clad in armless black t-shirt, black denim jeans, and a pair of slippers when it was discovered by a resident who was returning home after work.A police source stated that there seemed to be lacerations about the man’s head.Lakeram Shamlall, the father of the deceased, said that his son used to live with him at Lot Three Railway, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara until recently. His son then went to live with some relatives at Lot 136 Eccles Public Road, EBD and was currently assisting with some repairs at the Mandir in Eccles.He stated that Navindra was a “handy-man” who was once married but unfortunately the marriage ended with a divorce and one child.Lakeram explained that every Monday, Navindra would visit him and the rest of his family at Liliendaal but on the last visit he did not see his son because he (Lakeram) had already left home to go to work.Navindra Shamlall The father told Kaieteur News that Navindra’s sister and uncle visited the Lyken Funeral Home yesterday to identify the body, which they stated had marks of violence. He said that he was told by his daughter and brother that Navindra’s head was “bashed in a bit” and his neck “look twisted”.Lakeram described Navindra as an easy-going individual. The only downfall was that his son was “fond of alcohol”.“It is less than six months since my wife died and now we have to deal with this. I don’t know how we will make it through. I just don’t know what to say or do”.
