Leon Balgobin, 28, a known felon in Berbice is in court again, this time for raping his pregnant reputed wife.Balgobin was yesterday refused bail by magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her to answer the charge.The prosecution’s case is that on Sunday last at Bun Bush Dam, Cumberland, Balgobin allegedly abducted and had sex with the woman against her will.Kaieteur News understands that the Balgobin and the woman were living together as husband and wife and she bore him two children.From time to time the couple would encounter problems and they will separate temporarily.On the night in question, the woman, who is pregnant, was at a night spot in Cumberland Canje when she received a phone call.Upon venturing outside, the Balgobin held her at knifepoint and forced her to his home at Bun Bush Dam where he had sex with her against her will.Balgobin was previously charged with discharging a loaded firearm at a policeman at Strand New Amsterdam in 2008.He had led the police on a chase through the streets of New Amsterdam as shots were fired continuously.He was also charged with attempted murder when he is alleged to have inflicting nine stab wounds to his reputed wife in October last year, at another night spot in Canje.Attorney at Law Charrandass Persaud is representing the accused. He is to appear in court again next Wednesday.
