– Truck driver detained after apparent hit-and-runA truck driver of Loo Creek is currently in police custody at Linden and being questioned about the death of Earl Abrams on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.Abrams, 32, of Kairuni, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was yesterday morning found lying dead on the highway a short distance from where he lived.The apparent victim of a hit-and-run, Abrams was reportedly on his way home, when he met his demise.According to reports, the man who burnt coals on the hills in proximity to his home had gone to his work site with some friends.They said that he left for home around 3:00 hours.A resident who had gone to a nearby creek for a bath around 5:30 hours saw Abrams’ body on the highway.But earlier, a man who was on his way to Linden from Georgetown, saw a truck driving away from the scene.Police were subsequently called in and when they inspected the truck they found hair and blood.They immediately arrested the driver. The truck had been loaded with lumber.According to the dead man’s sibling, Leon Abrams, his brother had left home the night before to check on one of his coal pits.Relatives recalled that an uncle died in a similar manner a couple of years ago not too far away from the spot where Earl Abrams was killed.The truck driver appeared to have been in breach of the traffic regulations that govern the movement of logs on the highway. The law prohibits the movement of logs between 18:00 hours and 06:00 hours on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
